2009 12 29- Another interesting fluke match from our 2009 collection Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Stevenson

Last night I was bug-eyed from editing the film so rather than play Soduku, I tried to match one of our 152 2009 individual fluke ids against the 7,000 whale flukes in the Allied Whale catalogue of North Atlantic humpback whales. I had already run this whale fluke through the relevant types and subtypes a couple of weeks ago but I must have been tired then because last night I made the match to na6092. The whale has been photographed once before, here in Bermuda in 2007 and it wasn't one of our project team members. The matching photo was taken by Kris Taeleman on 13th April 2007. Our photo 0158 was taken on the second of April 2009. Although I had several photos of 0158 it was the great shot by Richard Lee below that gave me the match.

The fact that this whale has been photographed here in 2007 and 2009 is yet another indication that these whales stick to their mid-ocean migratory routes.
